I’m Baaaaack!

January 13, 2010 at 6:18 pm (Uncategorized)

Because of a comment I received yesterday, I decided I should maybe come back to blogging about A Stray Flame. I did in fact finish NaNoWriMo with 3 minutes to spare and only 50009 words. Yeah, it was definitely close.

However, I don’t think I’m going to do much more with A Stray Flame for a while. Rather, I think I’m going to move on to a new project. A bit more personal of a story too that has been tugging at my brain as of lately. So hopefully people will find this story just as worth following as the Flame.

Something A Bit Not As Usual

November 22, 2009 at 1:34 am (Uncategorized)

As most people may know, PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people
mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard. And every Sunday, this really amazing guy named Frank puts them up on http://postsecret.blogspot.com. And every Saturday night, I stay up until midnight to see the newest post secrets.

Secretly, my biggest hope is to find a secret that really touches me. And I have to say that it’s finally happened.

Post Secrets will in some way or another, touch you. You can read a million of them until you find that one that just embraces who you are. I stared at this for the longest time tonight and cried because, well, I finally felt like maybe I’m not the only person who feels that way.

Forever a Post Secret fan.

Day 10 is About to Begin

November 10, 2009 at 9:43 am (Uncategorized)

You guys remember all that stuff I said about Perseverance. Guess what, it pays off. 3 straight hours of typing while on the road yesterday, plenty of hand-writing after my computer battery died, and two word wars later in the evening and I had typed 2833 words. Just check out where I am.

Total: 12771

Behind By: 2232

It’s definitely better than where I was two days ago.

I did the math just now and if I can type 2600 words in the next three days I’ll be caught up, and in fact over, where I need to be.

NaNo is a lesson in perseverance. I don’t know how many times I will say this but it’s very very very very true.

Good luck everyone!

Day 4 is finished at 7118 words!!!

November 5, 2009 at 1:51 am (Uncategorized)

Now for those of you who are writing by the usual 1667 words per day calendar, that means that by day 4, I needed at least 6668. Obviously I majorly made up for everythign that I lost yesterday. What did I say about just sitting down and doing it? Oh yeah, sit down…and get this…do it. 😀

I can owe a lot of my success today to two factors. Word Wars and a new character.

For those of you who don’t know what a Word War is (and I’ll admit that I didn’t even learn about them until about an hour ago, it’s really about setting a start time, a finishing time, and then competing with other people to write the most words. It’s surprisingly helpful, mostly because it will make everything more competative. You can find WW challenges all over the NaNo site. All you have to do is go out there and look. You can even just set little challenges with friends, NaNoers or not.

And we also have my new favorite charater: Ms. Louise!!!!

She’s old, she’s missing some teeth, and she is way too dependent on superstitions. But she’s just too cool. Whoo! Day four is rocking!

3862!!! T’WAS THE DAY BEFORE NANO (a poem)

November 3, 2009 at 12:30 am (Uncategorized)

But it definitely feels good to be ahead of myself. I mean, sure, it’s only 500 words but that means that I’ve got 500 words to fall back on later. And it may not seem like a lot, but it does start to have an effect on things in the long run.

So here’s my newest bit of advice. Jump on it.

Even if it’s only 40 words, if you take the time to push a little harder, stay awake five minutes longer, you might just accomplish something super monumental. You never know.

And as an added treat, a poem by an absolute genius who I know by the name bubblewrapped. This poem, which you can also find somewhere in the NaNo forums, belongs souly to bw but I just thought this would be a really cute little spark of inspiration.

by bubbledwrapped

T’was the day before NaNo and through all the lands,
The writers sat waiting, their pens in their hands.
Some of them gathered in cafes and stores –
Some lurked on the ‘net, in spades and in scores.
All of them tense, with one shared source of stress:
It’s just about NaNo and their lives are a mess!

Relatives, jobs, study reaching it’s peak –
Everything’s due by the end of the week!
There’s illness and ailments and laptops are dying,
Professors conspiring, and stern parents sighing.
How will we manage even one single word?
The global lament of the NaNo is heard.

And that’s just the start! There’s also the plot,
about which we know nothing (save that someone gets shot);
the intractable outline, the mutinous lead,
all of these things are a problem indeed!
The thing about NaNo (they are heard to exclaim)
Is it’s too fun to resist, but engenders such pain!

And all of those authors, their minds on their goal
vowed never to stop ’til their novels were whole.
Their plots (or the lack of them) danced in their heads
and as it neared midnight, none took to their beds.
All anxiously sat at their desks, in their chairs,
Wondering if this year, 50k would be theirs…!

Yay for the Bus!

November 2, 2009 at 4:03 pm (Uncategorized)

So, I ride the bus almost every day to school to and back with a close to total hour and 45 minutes on the bus every day. *dies* Try riding a pink bus to school every day. It gets to be embaressing.

But that point aside, this morning’s hour on the bus gave me time to write close to 700 words which is impressive seeing as it can be excedingly difficult to write when you’re being bounced around like a new born on her grandmama’s knee.

Yay for the bus!

While on the NaNo Forums, I found another fun thread that posed the question: Who would you pick to play you’re character as a movie. And they are:

A Writer’s Dream

October 30, 2009 at 5:05 pm (Uncategorized)

Christopher Moore. Look at that face, beautiful. More importantly, look at any book by Mr. Moore and see that he is easily a wizard with words whose stories will easily bring a smile to your face. That’s probably why he’s been my literary idol for years.

And what a dream come true it would be to have a chance to interview Mr. Moore. And one day when he’s least expecting it, he’ll be surfing the web and stumble across this blog. And maybe he’ll be feeling generous that day and he’ll email me to set a date for an interview. Or maybe some friend of his will see it and send this to him as a joke so he can laugh at me. Or best of all, maybe, just maybe, he’ll be driving passed my house when his vehicle mysteriously runs over a pile of nails and who will be there with a spare tire in one hand, a notebook in the other hand, and a pen in my last hand.
